Brochure

This is a photo I shot while staying at a condo with my sister Laura in Panama City Beach, Florida.  I think I should start taking photos for condo brochures.  This is an original photo, no editing, not even a crop.

Lizard

Walking

I captured this in December 2000, just before Christmas.  This photo is probably my most popular shot.  People seem to love it.  Contrary to what you might think - this is not a rainy day.  This was actually an ice storm.  The photo was taken on Vaughn Drive along the Ohio River in Madison, Indiana.

Madison - Milton Bridge

From my early days of photograhy.  It was a perfect foggy morning.  No editing was done other than a simple crop and converting the image to black & white.

Quite Possibly My Best Bird Photo

Yeah, that's breakfast in his beak.

Sunflower On A Rainy Day

Totally  a set up. But still a great shot.

Great Egret

I took this earlier today at Campus Lake on LSU.

Here's the exact location I shot this guy.

Corner of E Lakeshore Dr @ E Lakeshore Dr, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

No, that's not a misprint.  Two cross streets had the same name?  Go Figure.  If you don't believe me look here.  I bet you won't doubt ME again.  Even if you do I still like the photo.

Look at the neck on this guy

This guy has one curvy neck.  You have to be way out in the wilderness to catch images with up close and personal detail like this one.

One of my best exposures of the day!

I was able to capture this guy with MANUAL FOCUS!  I was borrowing my friends 1.4x Canon Teleconverter which renders the auto focus on my Canon 100-400 lens inoperable.  I can't believe I got the image and with such sharp detail.

Unknown Species

While battling the elements in the wilderness today I saw many strange species of birds.  Here is one example of a bird that I know nothing about.  I'm going to do some research later and then update the blog with my findings.

UPDATE: I've found the bird.  It's a Green Heron.  Here's a link to it

Snowy Egret

The Hunt!

Unfortunately I wasn't fast enough with the lens to show you the fish this guy ate.  I like how he is concentrating on his prey.

Louisiana Wildlife

UPDATE # 2:  After finding this photo I'm now more convinced that this is a Tricolored Heron, formely known as the Louisiana Heron

UPDATE:  I need your HELP!  I can't figure out what bird this is.  The closest I can come to is a Tricolored Heron.  But that's not it if you ask me.   Unless the male and female look different and I have only seen the opposite sex.  Let me know what you find out.  Use the comment button below.  Thanks.

I'm not sure what species this is or even its common name.  It is a very interesting bird.  My friend Mark got eaten alive by fire ants while I captured this image.  If you've never been bitten by fire ants they are extremely painful.  After the pain subsides the itching and swelling begin.  For some folks a single fire ant bite can still be lingering a week later.  Mark bit his tongue as he stepped into an ENTIRE MOUND of fire ants.  They were all over his feet.  He must have gotten 5 or 6 bites.  BUT he didn't let a peep out of his mouth.  He didn't want me to miss the shot because he was screaming bloody murder from the agony of the multiple bites.  That's what I call a brave, fearless friend!

The Angels

Saw them again this morning with Lucy and Christian. I never get tired of the ear piercing jet blast combined with the smell of JP5.

Last Post

This will be my last post this morning. I'm off to New Orleans with Loosey to capture some more images. The St. Charles line is running again for the first time since Hurricane Katrina. I hope we get to ride it. BTW this is a pix from my side yard. Loosey thought I should post this.

Mark's Flowers

This is a flower from my buddy Mark's yard.

Perfect Location.....

to film a car commercial. I can envision the Red Corvette coming around the curve.

My Sister Lucy

She's standing under the shade of an oak tree. In the background is the Mississippi River levee. She is probably only 20 yards from the waters edge but you would never know it.

Cemetary

Lucy and I visited a cemetery on River Road yesterday. These are some of the neatest places in Louisiana. This was not the fanciest grave, it was the shady peacefulness of this site that caught my attention.

Stop Flushing!

I wish all you Yankees would stop flushing your toilets so much. The Mississippi River is very high this spring. This picture shows you how high the river is. This photo has terrible color but beyond that look how much higher the ship is than the cars in the parking lot. This isn't a Photoshop trick. The levee system allows the water level of the river to be higher than the adjacent ground. The result is that ships will appear to be floating on land.

Mardi-Gras

Any of you that know me would be surprised to learn that this parade is one of my favorites. You see, I'm not really a dog lover but the Krewe of Mutts is something I look forward to all year long. The kids and I have so much fun watching the parade with all the dogs in their costumes.

My Backyard

Here I am snapping some photos in my backyard. This is my primary bird viewing area. I've been feeding them and providing nesting boxes for 3 seasons now. I have lots of hummingbirds, eastern bluebirds, common grackles, cardinals, mourning doves, sparrows, wrens and mockingbirds. Occasionally I will see blue jays, red-winged blackbirds, cattle egrets, and woodpeckers. I've recently started to get some squirrels too. Today I caught one of the squirrels on top of the bat house. The first season with bat house I would count 70+ bats living in the house, but they have not been back for 2 seasons. Let me know if you have any ideas why they won't come back. They helped with controlling the mosquito population.

Argument

Who's going to babysit the chicks???

Courage

"Soon I'll have enough courage to spread my wings and take my first flight."

Peek-a-boo!!!

If you look closely you can see the chick's eyes.

Mom & Dad Bluebird

Breakfast time

My bluebird has found breakfast for his young chicks.

Eastern Bluebird

My best bluebird picture yet!! Today is the first morning with good weather since I got my new Canon 100-400 lense. So far I'm impressed with it :-)

I'll have more to post later.

Mardi-Gras 2008

Jo, the kids, and I all went to New Orleans for Mardi-Gras this year. We stayed at the Royal St. Charles Hotel. This shot of the parade was about 10 feet from our hotel. Very convenient. We all had a great time. The kids must have caught about 50+ pounds of beads. At least they felt that heavy when dad was packing them back to the hotel.

Dreamy....

Here's another shot Becky and I took today. This one was taken in the gardens of the state capital. We sure had a good time together.

Becky the GIANT!

Becky and I enjoyed a little father - daughter time today. She wanted to go to the Louisiana State Capital Building. I'm not sure she envisioned a picture like this but regardless we had a great day together. She's off to Pensacola tonight for an evening with her mom. On Monday she's playin hookey from school and spending the day with her Grandma.
